Who we are:

Picture
We are a passionate group of builders and pilots who just love to make and fly our own light recreational aircraft. We created "Quality Sport Planes" to help others who share our enthusiasm for this literally "wonder-full" hobby.

Since 2005, our mission has been to inform, assist and support builders of kit-built planes; we work with seasoned as well as new pilots exploring the exciting world of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA). From introductory demonstration flights through to kit assembly, aircraft maintenance and repairs, our goal is to assist LSA enthusiasts every step of the way.

Quality Sport Planes is also the west coast regional representative for airplane kits manufactured by Zenith Aircraft Company of Missouri. We exclusively showcase, demonstrate, sell and build the entire Zenith line of popular "CH" kit-planes; Our Zenith-related experience is second-to-none and you'll find us at most large fly-ins and air-shows in the West.

Quality Sport Planes is located on the Cloverdale Municipal Airport (O60), 85 miles north of San Francisco. Our facilities include 4000 sq.ft. of hangar and office space. Visitors are welcome by car and by air!

Our Staff and Associates:

Doug Dugger and his wife Lori now coordinate and oversee all activities at QSP. Doug will be found in the shop on most days, while Lori fills our reception and office needs. If not on site, you can bet they are at a show somewhere, displaying the aircraft and offering demo flights. They still fly the CH 601 XL they built together whenever they can -- and just love their plane!

Lori Dugger is the first person you will meet when calling or visiting our facilities in Cloverdale. She is our smiling greeter and front-office magician. Not only does Lori make us look good (organized office, current customer files, up-to-date accounts, fresh coffee, name tags, etc.) but starting with her and her husband's own Zodiac, she has now also developed a great line of Zodiac/STOL accessories (seats and canopy covers).

Doug, a master auto mechanic by trade, has been involved in recreational aviation in Sonoma County for over 30 years. He now heads QSP's Builder-Assistance programs but he also flies most of our demo flights. You'll meet Doug at all our major events and at most of the fly-ins we participate in. He'll know kit delivery schedules and will also answer all sales-related questions.

Eric Peterson has an extensive background in building homebuilt aircraft. Having completed and flown numerous popular models (including his own design), he knows it when "things are done right". We are very fortunate to have Eric, a long-time Cloverdale resident, share his skills and expertise with participants in our various workshops and builder-assist programs.

Don Shaw has 50 years of flying experience under his belt: 12 years in the Air Force, 28 with the airlines, and ten since retirement. He joined EAA Chapter 124 in 1978 and completed his first homebuilt three years later: an award-winning Rutan Vari-eze at Oshkosh ’82. Don’s last personal project was the much larger all-metal Murphy Rebel. Dan is available locally for builder-assistance on any of the Zenith kit designs.

Ed Dalbec's life-long passion as well as occupation has been General Aviation. Not only is Ed an esteemed local A&P, but as a long-time flight instructor (CFII, MEI), he used to offer flight instruction right here in Cloverdale only a few years ago... Ed is now available on most weekends for Builder Assistant projects with special emphasis on Zodiac XL airframe assemblies and engine installations.

Bob Archibald is owner and manager of Dragonfly Aviation, California's oldest and most successful flight training center north of San Francisco. Bob is excited about the new Sport Pilot category and every one of his instructors is qualified to teach Sport Pilot students. Dragonfly Aviation has been using the Zodiac XL as a Light Sport trainer for many years. Call Bob for all your training, transitional and Flight review needs.

Michael, son of Chris Heintz (designer of the Zodiac and STOL series), started flying as a teenager and by the early eighties, was giving flight instruction in open-cockpit ultralights. Michael is the founder of QSP and was our General Manager until his recent move to Europe where he is now working with the Zenair representatives' network there. While he still occasionally responds to some of our e-mail inquiries, he will seldom be seen in Cloverdale until his full-time return.
